How to Take a Vacation As an Entrepreneur Without Falling Behind
May 26, 2026Have you ever come back from vacation only to face the chaotic aftermath?
The struggle is real.
But I have a tip that makes the re-entry smoother:
Working ahead on all things content-related. Trust me; the alternative is not for the faint of heart.
The Grind Before the Vacation:
I’ve worked with countless female entrepreneurs, and here’s the scoop: hitting the ground running on day one post-vacation? Not likely.
The laundry mountain awaits, bills are getting close to past due, and the inbox resembles a jungle of unread emails. Re-entry is a beast.
There’s a better way.

The Power of the Two-Week Buffer:
Crabby post-vacation Kelly? No, thank you.
Knowing the re-entry struggles, I’ve made it a ritual to work ahead in the two weeks leading up to vacation. This time management tip really changes everything. Whether it’s newsletters, blogs, coaching content, or social media posts, a little extra effort beforehand means a smoother transition back into the daily grind.
Spring Break and Easter Prep:
Eyeing that upcoming spring break or Easter getaway?
Consider this in February: Double up on newsletters. Invest a few extra minutes to craft 2 or 3 social media Monday posts instead of one. It’s all about those small efforts that pay off big for your small business.
Your future post-vacation self will be sending you virtual high-fives.

A Hundred Thanks Over:
The secret sauce? Maintain this rhythm for a couple of weeks before your trip, and you’ll thank yourself a hundred times over when you return. 3 weeks is even better because it will help it not feel like so much of a grind.
Leverage task batching and just do 5-10% more each time you’re working and you’ll be shocked at how far you can work ahead.
The Key
The key is knowing not to just work ahead for your vacation week itself. Rather, give yourself 3-5 days of completed work waiting for you when you get home. For my recent vacation to the Caribbean (still swooning over it), I worked so far ahead, I was able to be in cruise control for two full weeks upon my return before I even had to think about content creation.
Yes, it’s work. But it made the vacation all that much sweeter.
Avoid the post-vacation overwhelm and embrace the zen of a well-prepared return. Your future self will be beyond grateful.
